CamperWill - As far as the load output goes, I would say it depends on your requirements. The load output simply allows you to connect a 12V load directly off of the controller, typically a light or something small. This allows you to bypass the batteries. In my case, I wouldn't really need the load output so it isn't a requirement, but depending on where you place the controller you may want a light or something nearby.
