The flame safety system detects the presence of a flame by conducting a rectified microamp signal through the flame. The signal is only a few millions of an amp and it doesn't take very much to go wrong to upset the system . The surfaces that the flame contacts must be kept clean, on the ground side and on the flame rod side. The ratio of ground contact surface area to flame rod contact surface is also important. Cleaning all electric connections and the burner/flame rod parts with a Scotch-Brite pad and adjusting things properly usually does it for me. Sometimes I have to add some extra ground wires to be sure the flame rectification loop has good continuity. Craig
