That was very common 40 years ago, used on kitchen counter tops, where code requires 2- 20 amp. circuits.

Mine were called DUAL HONDA 15AMP ADAPTER. I have three of these in my Rv tool box.

These are HARD WIRED to parallel BOTH sides of a standard 120VAC receptacle. These cannot be used if your 120VAC receptacle is a split phase unit. The only purpose for these adapters is to spread out the contact space to give you a good solid connection for less heat generated. Although you plug your 30AMP RV shore power cable into one of these you only get a 15AMP service from a standard 15AMP 120VAC DUAL receptacle.

You CANNOT make two sides of a 15AMP 120VAC receptacle give you a 30AMP source... Both ports that plug into a standard 120VAC DUAL receptacle is HARD WIRED in PARALLEL.

Pretty handy to have around if you know what they are used for...

Yes the orange rectangular adapter. all it really does is spread out the load over more contact area lowering the heat thuslowering the resistance. most duplex outlets are only good for 15 amps per side cold. These would give you 20amps & no heat. They are connected internally so if you plugged it into a split duplex it still would not give you @@0 volts just a tripped breaker or GFCI.

There's always an exception isn't there!

The adapter was intended for use with certain gen-sets where the duplex outlet is wired for two 15 Amp circuits. They are connected "in phase" and on the same 30 Amp breaker.

Any other use was contrary to the labeling of the product.

Scary, isn't it. A typical 120v. receptacle is fed from a single breaker back at the panel so you still have a 15 or 20 amp limit depending on the breaker size. It is possible to separate the two outlets of a duplex receptacle and is often done with a living room outlet so a table lamp can be put on a switched circuit. Virtually never is a duplex receptacle fed from 2 separate breakers (and is probably a code issue). In the extreme rare instance it might be, it is highly possible that the phasing is different for each outlet and a direct short would occur if both of those male prong sets are interconnected.

This topic comes up fairly often. The adapter hasn't been available for a couple of years now.
