I appreciate all the responses so far, and I have actually considered the Champion, but I am just not sure if I will be able to handle the weight of the 3500. So that is why I am considering the dual Honda's. Especially since they came out with the 2200's. So, I have made the decision to go with the Honda's.
Now, for my original question of what exactly do I need to connect them in parallel? I hear people say that I don't need the companion, but if I don't get the companion how will I get 30 amps out of one of the 20amp plugs on the regular model? If I just buy (or make) the cables to connect the 2, that still doesn't give me a plug capable of producing 30amps (Even though both generators will have the power available) So, does that mean I have to buy an entire "kit" that has a 30amp plug if I don't buy the companion.
The "kit" in question is nothing more than the parallel wires with a 30A socket wired in the middle. You could build such a kit (and it would be safe and effective to use) yourself if you're so inclined and moderately handy at that sort of thing. Make sure that whatever you get has the correct sorts of connectors, the shrouded banana plug things, and is not a suicide cord in disguise.
(Pendant alert: a plug is a male connector, and a socket is the female one. The parallel kit has a 30A socket, not a 30A plug.)
