But otrfun, aren't you afraid of everyone catching colds? Just kidding and thanks for the reminder that the ductwork in some units is far from perfect. The noise is worse with the fifty percent setting, let us know if it is any quieter at one hundred percent?
After I removed the entire grate assembly, the air exiting the evaporator has an unobstructed exit, so it's possible it might be quieter than before. However, when you stand directly underneath the shroud there is a massive amount of air exiting. Some might find that bothersome. For me, that indicates that a massive amount of air is being moved and cooled---I'll gladly trade that inconvenience for the improved cooling.
As for catching colds, TomG2, not a lot of concern about that in the desert SW--lol! A/c units get pushed to their absolute limits in this part of the country. If we camped in more areas with moderate temps I'd probably never given any of this a second thought.
