DuoTherm AC leaking water into the coach from one long bolt

We have an older 1998 Monaco Dynasty coach with Duo Therm ACs mounted on top. This morning, we noticed water dripping on the bed. It came from one of four long screw bolts holding the bottom in place. It is also raining so I don't know if the water dripping could be condensation from the unit or a leak in the roof seal up on top. There is a separate drain tube coming out the bottom of the rig that seems to be draining properly. Any ideas. all the hoses under the unit look intact. Model number 620315,321 Penguin model. serial number 73519421. I appreciate any insight. I can't get up on the roof today in the rain. Thanks!

  • As always thank you to all the great posters at rv. Net for excellent advice on our leaky Duo Therm air conditioner. I did tighten up the nuts a little bit it hasn't rained all day and the water leakage is stopped so I think it is that pesky roof seal. I'd say after 20 years that thing is pretty well shot and I'll get it replaced when we return. thanks all of you kindly

Normally, this is good advice. BUT, if the AC gasket is more than 4 years old, the gasket has already compressed too much. If you tighten the bolts, odds are you will compress the gasket too MUCH and crack the drain cup system for the thru the roof AC condensation system. You need to replace the gaskets on all your roof AC units. Then see if you have any leaks after that. Doug

  • Those long bolts are what attaches the A/C Unit to RV and compress roof gasket

They should be finger tight then SNUG (40# INCH Pounds of torque IF you have an INCH torque wrench)

BUT that old of a RV (1998 vintage) it is time for a NEW A/C Unit roof gasket
cause the water coming in is from a LEAK....old gasket/loose bolts

    Universal roof gasket.....numerous models
  • I would make sure the drain passages up top are clear of any obstacles. You'll have to pull the cover to check.
