I haven't used the Duration kit, but I originally did a DIY kit much the same way. I was never really happy with it so I bought the aluminum caps. The quick connects and aluminum caps are pretty hard to beat and they allow for you to maintain a good seal with your OEM caps for travelling.
In your DIY attempt, are you saying you inserted some kind of insert into the middle of the OEM cap with the fuel hose attached--similar to the Duration? If so, where did you purchase the inserts? Did you have problems with an air leak (i.e., insufficient fuel flow)? Thanks.
