IF the cord is getting noticeably hot, it is DEFECTIVE or is being used over it's capacity. Or it is being cooked by external heat.
There is absolutely, positively nothing wrong with loosely coiling any power cord designed for consumer use. If a problem does arise, it is NOT because of the coiling.
