But once you figure out you are using it above it's capacity it may be obviously too late. And coiling only exacerbates the situation.
I'll tell you a true story. One day my wife wanted a extension cord so she could use the electric fry pan. So I dutifully grabbed one, hooked it to the pedestal (leaving most of it coiled on the holder, and gave her the plug for her fry pan. She cooked the potatoes while I was frying the bacon. Unbeknownst to me she also hooked another pan for eggs and the coffee pot to it. Well suffice to say I ended up with a smoldering pile of burnt cord on the cord holder.
