I rented my 2018 Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2710BH on RVShare. The renter accidentally put 240v to it and it messed a bunch of stuff up. I replaced 3 of the main converters circuit breakers, and I think I got everything working. I may be screwed as to RVShares insurance coverage doesn’t cover a lot of electrical stuff, which is total BS. Right now, the main thing that I can’t get to work is the fridge when plugged into Electric, but it works on propane. I checked the fuse for AC power on the circuit board and it seems to be fine. Also, it won’t let me run anything when plugged in unless the battery is connected, which I thought it weird. Taking it to a dealer next week, but might be totally screwed on this insurance deal. Any idea on the fridge and what all to check? I don’t want things to go bad in the future that are working now, but it seems like the circuit breakers may have saved mostly everything.

Welcome to the forums!Heating element is likely burned out on the fridge, MAYBE there's a fuse on the control board. Get our your owners manual for the fridge and take a look.For the 12v no power without battery, likely your converter (battery charger) is burned out as well, and is just passing through 12v from the batteries.

Can you find a local electrical person to help you troubleshoot? Using a meter, you need to trace the 120 V all the way back to the source to find out what is working and what is not. Also using a meter you need to check the inputs and the output of the converter. Personally, I would Use all the local help I could find before I took it back to the dealer.Jerry Parr602-321-8141

The fridge is basically just a heating element; it's probably burned out. That should be an easy repair. I would absolutely make the renter pay for all the damage. You can't "accidentally" plug it into 240v. The 30A RV plug is a 120v design. The only way you can get 240v on it is to mangle the blades and jam it into the wrong rec or build your own crazy adapter. What I'm saying is it was intentionally plugged into 240v. Not that he was trying to fry it but you have to really try to do what he did.I'm assuming, of course, that this is a 30A RV. If you have a 50 amp service that changes everything. Those are 240/120v.

He “accidentally” did it because the previous wiring to his barn was not using the correct color coded wires. Everything to the breaker boxes was colored wrong so he ran an outlet off it to a 30a outlet that was 240 not 120

Iamichabod, the 5 amp DC fuse and 8amp AC fuse on the fridge control board looked fine

Have you checked the tv and microwave. They usually get zapped as well.

Thanks map40! I’m just preparing for the worst since I haven’t taken it in yet. So take it in, get professionally fixed and go after RVshare if they don’t stand by it?

KD, I don’t let anyone rent my own camper, this is just a side business, that’s just about on pace to pay itself off. It’s made me good money. I have this camper and the one I use, which I don’t rent.

Seen it before. Your board and heating element in the fridge are most likely gonners. $250
You converter, which is escentially a battery charger, is also gone. Depending on brand the internal fuses or resistors might have saved the transformer, but the unit is not fit for commercial applications anymore because if there is any problems in the future and you repaired the converter, their lawyers are coming after you.
Buy a new converter, $200 or so.
Test you GFCI, they should be fine.
Renter needs to pay. It was his negligence. Call him and tell him the total of the damage and let him handle the insurance.
RV share has to help, is part of their responsibility to broker between you and the customer.
I have dealt with similar problems in the 7 years we have been renting out fleet. RVSHARE is NOT free and clear. Don't let them off the hook. They can charge the customer as they have their credit card

KD, it’s definitely his fault, but the 3rd party insurance isn’t saying they don’t cover the negligent electrical hook up. After replacing my circuit breakers, I’ve got everything working except that fridge (plugged in) Is it really worth my time to go to court, if I can just keep his deductible ($500) and fix the stuff left?

Well that makes it his fault. Why is he not responsible for the damage? I'd get a professional to repair everything and take him to court if he won't pay the damage.

Agree. He broke it, he gets to fix it.

Next. What have we learned? NEVER rent or loan your RV. No way I would let any one drag my TT out of my yard.
