When you disconnected from the pedestal, all you've done is eliminated your converter (the device that charges your battery) and we're running off the battery for 12 VDC. So yes you still would have 12v when un-plugged. As others have stated it looks like you lost 120 AC power from the pedestal.
Also, you most likely don't have an inverter but rather a converter.
