Electrical Issues

The switches on my panel are backlit. The other day, I noticed my "Ceiling" switch is dimmer than usual and the lights are not coming on. So, there must be power because the switch light is coming on, though not as bright as usual. Even the other switches are brighter. I can't find the fuse for the ceiling, and besides, all the fuses are fine. Anyone have any idea why the switch is dim and the lights don't work?
  • One out of a gang of switches with dim indicator and no function screams....

    IT'S THE SWITCH!

Remove panel and meticilously examine the places where wires connect to it

    NEXT!

Take an image of the switches and wires.
Cause you're going to rob the switch alongside
    And SUBSTITUTE.
If you have a bunch of same color wires bunch them together according to each switch. Rubber bands work great for this.

    Did that fix the problem?

Keep humming "I saved a hundred dollars" the whole time.
  • Use a long wire connected to a good frame ground and with a voltmeter measure the voltage to both sides of the switch. If OK then measure at the light positive. If OK then the negative will be volts above 0V.

You could also measure the switch negative wire for it's bulb.
  • Thanks for your help. I'm connected to shore power, so battery charge isn't a problem. How do I find a connector or ground problem? Or is that something I should leave to a professional? Would it just be easiest to change out the switch?

Low voltage due to wiring, connectors, grounds and switch.

    Yup.

If it were a fuse then the light on the switch wouldn't come on at all. Being dim means it's getting some power and that indicates the fuse is good.
