After looking at the pictures, someone told me that this also could have been caused by a lightening strike... not a direct hit, but one that would have come up through the ground. Any thoughts to this theory?
Not unless there was an electrical storm that night. While I don't have a definitive answer, I'm not sure I can buy the RV shops explanation of the cause. It appears that every neutral wire was burned and that would shoot the theory of one or even two wires coming loose. The result of that would be a arc or burn mark for the specific wire and/or the loss of whatever appliance was associated with the loose neutral. The way all of those wire are burned, it would have to be something that was common to the entire neutral buss bar. To me, that would point back to the campground's power pedestal. A hot wire shorted to the neutral buss would have tripped either the pedestal breaker or the one in the camper. Another possibility would be an appliance with an internal short drawing enough current to overheat wiring, but not enough to trip a breaker. I'm just thinking out loud and I could be mistaken.
