Electrical Wizards: Open Ground

Hope someone can help me and I know you can. I have a relatively new Honda 2000 generator. I also have a Progressive EMS.. Well to my surprise the Honda generator has an open ground. The EMS will not allow power to the RV with an open ground. How can I hook up the generator so that it doesn't have an open ground or is that possible with a generator? I know the generator has an open ground because not only does the EMS tell me it does I checked it with another gauge that I have and it also says open ground. :h

Here is a couple of pictures of what is being talked about for bonding the generator... Replace plug cover when done...

  • Hello... with the generator running plug in a socket tester and see what it says... If it says open ground then the ground is not bonded to the common wire..

That means its a floating neutral. ( Well its not really a neutral on 120V)

Anyway the quickest and easy way to fix it is to make an Edison plug. Tie the ground and common ( Or neutral together and then plug that into your generator. This will bond the gen and you should be good to go.. I do this with my coleman gen when boon docking.. as my gen also has a floating neutral....

Let us know if this helps...

  • Hook neutral and ground together in a plug and plug it into the generator. I think you can buy a plug like that somewhere
