Electrician says Motor Homes want 220v

Tell your neighbor that he is an idiot! All RV's (OK, a few exceptions) use 120V. A 30 amp RV MUST be wired for 120V. A 50 amp coach MUST be wired for 120V. However, the 50 amp RV has 2 legs of 120V service and between the 2 legs there is a reading of 240V if you connect a meter but nothing in the coach is wired for 240V. Hooking up your 30 amp RV to 240V = BOOM!

Uhh, the neighbor said the MH outlet (assume they meant receptacle) should be 220. IF it’s a 50A service which many MH’s have, it is indeed a 220 “outlet” (240/120 but most people just call it 220). Whether the MH uses 240 or not isn’t the point.

Calling it 2 legs of 120 is more dangerous since it doesn’t describe them as being on opposite ends of the split phase. Wiring a “dual 120” would result in an overloaded neutral if both hots were on the same phase.

Nothing idiotic involved, just ambiguity about 30A or 50A RV.
