I read the information on Fords website about remans. You Want a SEALED long block NOT an open one. There is a huge difference...Im sure the cost is too. Also the Ford has a 3 year UNLIMITED mileage warranty. From what I have heard from 2 friends that have repair shops...they will never use another Jasper engine. If you go with an UNSEALED long block DO NOT reuse your intake manifold as there were design issues with the early ones.
Great information. I will double check, but I believe we were quoted a sealed long block from Ford. I checked on Jasper engines and as their popularity increased, concerns over their quality also increased. Jasper does however offer high performance cams and such along with a warranty. We decided not to go with Jasper mainly based on the $2k cost increase.
If I'm reading your post correctly, since we are ordering a sealed long block, we are safe to reuse our intake manifold.
Dave: Thanks for the encouragement. Hang in there: so far we are enjoying the adventure...at least most of the time that doesn't involve exhaust bolts or unexpected cooling fluids.
