I found Manual #888 and it was published in 2006. Specifies Steps with Control Unit Part #509510000. Our Step has Control #909508000 Serial 0057576, Motor marked "High Torque Motor 9551", and the Step is Model 40 Serial 39398.
I found a Troubleshooting Chart published in 2008 and a Troubleshooting Guide from "Bob's Guides." Cutting to the chase, I disconnected the two wire connector to the motor and ran wire from a jump start pack to the motor. Runs smooth and fast in both directions.
So... a Control Problem. I can see where a bad Magnetic Reed Door Switch would cause erratic operation. But that doesn't explain the force the step seemed to extend and retract with.
What Now, Coach? Can I use the documents I've found, or do I need others based on the Control Unit Number, and the Step being on a coach called 2003 but probably built in 2002. It's on a 2002 chassis...
