I believe what I'll try tomorrow, is to disconnect the door (magnetic reed) switch and wire a temporary known good mechanical one.
I think my on the road troubleshooting was complicated by the engine running when I pulled into a curbside parking area to check the step. My idea is that the combination of an intermittent door switch WITH the engine running, could have created that erratic operation.
I remain concerned that the control unit isn't doing its current limiting function properly. Today, the steps were closed "hard", much tighter than usual. Yesterday, when I opened the door in Chattahoochee, the step deployed, and got so stuck on the curb that I had to raise the coach on the front leveling jacks to get it to close when I shut the coach door. It shouldn't be opening or closing with that much force...
Also appreciate Doug's comment about getting a stuck motor out. I tied to budge the clevis pin between motor linkage and the bellcrank of the step. Felt like it was welded in place!
The "reed" switch just uses a ground signal. IF the Orange step light goes on and off with the door operation, the switch is NOT a problem. Doug
