Chalk another victory for the lobbyists. Big Corn and Big Sugar win another one at our expense. Boat and small engine shops are benefiting.
Not necessarily true.
I'm from Wisconsin where we have been using ethanol for over 20 years now in our gas.
The year they ramped up all the ethanol plants being built in south east Wisconsin all the farmers ripped up their hay fields and planted corn. (which then jacked up the price of hay, wheat and soy 10X:().
They made a killing on selling their corn, ONCE. Only thing is there was so much it had to go into silos. THAT's another whole part of the stock market.
But I digress. ALL those proposed Ethanol plants are either half built, not built or closed. Not to mention and ALL the homes and farms they displaced by eminent domain.
So you do the math about ethanol. It isn't what it was all cracked up to be and it affected the ag/stock market so severely that it will stay at the level it is at. Congress doesn't know how to go backwards to fix their screw ups. Heck they barely walk forward.
Switch grass has been 'proven' to be far cheaper and cleaner to use for fuel than ethanol but sadly it doesn't line anyone's pocket.
From someone who used to drive by all those unfinished/closed ethanol plants sitting on what was my friends/relatives homes now stripped farm land. :(
