Will ethanol absorb water? Yes. Will this water have an effect on vehicles that sit? Yes. The majority of ethanol related complaints, the most common being fuel hose failure, and militant belief in the myth are in areas of lower income that have a greater number of OLD vehicles. Did the ethanol laced fuel cause the fuel hose to fail earlier? Yes, but the hose was going to fail because or age any way. Now as to paying $3.75/gallon that to can be fixed. When the commodities futures law was first passed it required that the futures purchaser accept delivery of the future purchased. It did not matter if this future was crude oil, soybeans, corn, you get the picture, you had to take physical possession of said future. Along came the 401K and the banks had lots of money and they needed to generate growth for the "investor" and profits for themselves. The US Congress tacked an amendment on to an unrelated bill that effectively removed the sentence pertaining to futures delivery.. Enter the speculator and up goes the cost of every commodity traded on the futures market. Corn/ethanol is not the primary driver of $3.75 gasoline. $100.00/barrel of crude definitely is. Ck history and you will see a sharp spike in commodity prices immediately after this slight modification was made to the original law governing the futures market.
