It does make a huge difference, ethanol gas requires 1 or 2 carb cleanings a year for proper operation on anything I run it in. When I use ethanol-free gas I can go years without an issue. This is on my 2 Honda EU2000's, 2 Stihl motors, John Deere Mower, Honda ATV's, dad's EU3000 Generator, and anything else small engine. I have cleaned carbs for friends on camping trips that used to use any gas, now ehtanol free and no issues.
You can say it's mental if you want, but small engines, IME, do not like it.. and it's across the board and very noticeable.

What does that have to do with ethanol in gas sitting in the tank and supposedly causing problems? I've left my rig sit for 2-3 months straight on multiple occasions with 1/2 a tank full (this year 5 months...too busy to camp unfortunately). Generator wasn't run for 3 of those months. Genny fired right up and ran 3 hours with a load no problems. Rig fired right up too with no problems.
They will fire up and run, but the longer you run them on old ethanol gas the more damage will be done to the fuel system. The system will start to gum up and not work properly.
Treating ethanol gas for storage does help, but it still deteriorates much faster into something you don't want run thru your fuel system.
