Spend a little extra for a better seat for the kayak, and you won't have to worry about a sore back.
Get something like this (not sure if it works on a regular kayak -- it's perfect for a sit-on-top one):

You can pull the straps tight enough to give great lumbar support. It made ALL the difference for my back!
