Mounting Kayak

I have been trying to figure out the best way to carry my kayak, and wondered why not mount it to the outside of the TC jacks? After much googling and searching on here I can't find anyone else that has done it, so I thought there must be a reason. My rig would only be 100" wide with kayak mounted, so good there. What am i missing?

    I've carried 2 SOT Kayaks IN the camper and after arriving at the beach I would carry them strapped to the jacks. Worked well at slow speeds. Not sure if I would want to run it like that at highway speeds.

    It would really create a large blind spot in the mirrors for one, and unless you padded everything securely it would rub the paint and the kayaks hull

    I have two different user id's and logged in at work under the older one. OBX that is exactly how I was thinking. Most trips are 30 to 60 miles, so wouldn't be a cross country deal.

    I was going to build a mount, so shouldn't be any different than strapping to the top, I don't think???

    please post the progress you make on the mount, I'm quite interested. I'm trying to figure out how to carry a kayak or two as well. I am thinking of going inflatable.

    My camper doesn't have a rack and I hate heights so putting it up on top seems to not work for me and I really don't want to tow a trailer if I can avoid it.

    If total width is over 8 ft. You could get a ticket. Also might get side swiped if on driver side on narrow two lane

    That photo looks horrible and the rig should and is not allowed on the roads. I have enough issue driving an 8' wide camper on multilane highways with trucks on both sides. You need to get a trailer to accommodate those kayaks.

    Comprehension does matter...

    The guy carry's them IN his camper until he gets to the beach..they're not hanging off the side of the truck going down the road.

    It would be for shorter trips, and I think 102" is now the max width. I know all my over axle ag trailers are 102". Not worried about driving width, as I pull them often, and it would be narrower than that. Yak would be mounted on passenger side.
