Exterior Light / Motion Detector swap out

I Purchased a Smart Light 1000 which is an exterior light / motion detector. The installation says to disconnect the battery before replacing the existing 12 volt light. My question is, do I reall...

Ok, I''ll disconnect the batteries. Seems like the right thing to do.
