You say you have 12V going to the "fan". Does that mean to the motor itself or to the FF assembly?
If someone reverses the direction while the blades are turning, it can/will blow the fuse. I would check that first.
If you have the black motor, keep it as long as you can. It is infinitely better than it's new pancake motor replacement.
