My old one died. Had pressure checked in one tire shop then got suspicious when I felt every damned road gravel chip in steering wheel. Next tire shop claimed Cuarenta y ocho libras 48 lbs. Bled pressure. Too much bottom bulge. Third shop 26 lbs! All three used truck type pencil gauges. Man I don't have time for this. I have an expensive 150 PSI gauge for Quicksilver but this is for a toad. 35 PSI.I believe I posted a question about this several months ago and received confusing opinions. Shopping for a digital gauge is of little help. Vendors do not state how long the display stays until auto shutoff. I need about 10-seconds because I have Oldfartitus. I am ready to order a digital gauge on Amazon or eBray but I am not ready to play Lets Make A Deal shopping by horse shoe or four leaf clover.Thanks

I have several of the Slime gauges and they seem to work well. They are lit and hold the display for a long time. I had two from HF but dropped one and broke it. I really like them because the angle is excellent for accessing the valve stems, they seal well, are accurate(seem to be anyway), and have user replaceable batteries. Down side is they aren't lit, but the display seems to stay on over 10 seconds. And I haven't been able to find them at our local HF store anymore, which is a real bummer. And they were cheap. :)

I know you asked for digital guages, but I love my Longacre analog gauge. Easy to read, very accurate, and won't break the bank.And I have the same experience with tire shops and psi. You'd these guys would know better.

Hate them. Batteries die just before I want to use them, plastic over display gets scratched, etc. Go analog.

I picked up three that look like a hand grip, red in color, at the local autoparts store. One for home, RV & truck. Working fine for the last 5 or 8 years. I can check at least two tires before it sleeps including R&R the cap. Display and connector have a light for after dark. Seem to be accurate in .5 increments. I think it was PepBoys or O'Reilly's.I think this is it: TEKTON on Amazon

Down here it's Gonzalez or Gomez. Have to buy online. It's a @#$%^&! having to pop those awful plastic hubcaps to get clearance to the valve stem. I'll take a chance and order the SLIME checker, THANKS!

Can you install longer valve stems so you don't need to cut up the wheel covers? I had to cut a notch on my dually wheel covers because I couldn't get to the stems with a gauge. Not happy about it, but whatcha gonna do.

Repaint the wheel black and the lug nuts gold and ditch the wheel covers. ;)
You will be looking real sharp. OK at least the tires would be inflated...

Mechanical gauges require no battery but are dependent upon a spring maintaining the same stiffness and the friction of a barrel moving in a tube remaining the same for years.

A good quality digital gauge is solid state with pressure force on a piezoelectric crystal causing a voltage proportional to the pressure. It likely will maintain its accuracy for a long time and measure more precisely.

Cheap dollar store batteries die quickly. Good ones are expensive in stores. But you can buy good brand ones on eBay for a dollar.

I carry a mechanical and a digital.

Left or right hand does not matter. Push the button and wait for zero. Press onto the valve stem and pull away. The reading will hold on the display so you can stare at it for 30 seconds and contemplate the full meaning. No need to be a contortionist either.

If you need a long rod to reach the stem this item will not work well for you.

I am "alergic" to batteries.
In our house we have 8 smoke detectors married to each other.
When one beeps twice, all of them go off.
For some reason our dogs are terrified by those beeps. They shake and hide of hour after and Murphy law says the battery always go in the middle of the night, meaning sleepless night because of stupid battery. Those are back-up batteries that suppose to last for years, yet we had 4 of them going in 1st year before I replaced Chinese batteries that come with detectors with Duracell.
