Fiberglass Crack on Sidewall

I found a crack about 4 inches long in the exterior fiberglass sidewall of my TT. Looking for suggestions to repair it.
  • As someone above said drill holes of at least 1/8" dia at each end to stop propagation of the crack. Then grove out the crack as wide as possible, I have carefully used a dremel tool on a drill. Get some 5 minute epoxy and fill the crack carefully with something like flat toothpick. Be very careful when applying as sanding it off can be very damaging and difficult. Then take the camper to an auto paint store and find a matching paint. One of the Dodge "white" colors matches my Bigfoot perfectly.

Or go spend $400 at a body shop.
  • I'd get a boat service to handle it unless you can find a very proficient RV service shop. We used to hire a boat gel coat guru for items like this, the guy could repair cracks in fiberglass, gel coat the finish and have everything drying under lights within an hour. The repairs were invisible as the guru knew how to color match gel coats. It is part science and part art.

only if the fiberglass repair kit is white bondo or its marine equivalent. certainly don't want to slap a piece of fiberglass cloth on it.
    bumpy
  • Drill a hole in the fiberglas at the end of the crack to help stop it from spreading.
Bondo has a product called Bondo Hair...it's Bondo with strands of fiberglas hair in it. It helps the repair hold and not crack. Fill the crack and smooth out, then let it dry.
Sand it to blend and then paint.
  • Is it cracked all the way thru, or just surface?
Is your trailer Gel Coat or painted?
Just out of curiosity, What brand is your trailer?
  • Temporary, Eternabond.

Permanent, search for marine fiberglass repair kits. It is something that you can do your self if you feel confident, otherwise any boat shop or rv repair should be able to do the job.

Of course, preparation and paint match makes the day.
  • Could you post a picture?
Where in the sidewall is the crack?
Might also want to figure out what caused it and fix that too.
