Fifth Wheel battery issue

Having an issue with my 12v system. One battery was leaking around positive post with a lot of corrosion in box. Batteries were old so I replaced them 3 days ago. Cleaned out box and put new batteries in, checked them today and it looks like the same thing is happening. 12v system seems to be working normally. Anyone have an idea what the issue is ? Bad ground ? Thanks for your help, Dave

  • My rig's battery box is still pristine. Painted with cheap black paint. So... what could I paint it with to make it more acid-resistant?

Also, anyone use those pads you can buy that are meant to sit under the batteries and neutralize the acid?

    example

    Amazon

edit: after reading the reviews on Amazon, and considering how cheap they are, I ordered a couple.
  • Just do a better job of cleaning the old mess. The new batts w/ the wizard converter,....it will be fine.

In some cases, if the new batts were filled too full, they could overflow while charging,..... make a mess all over again. In that case, fully charge the batts,.....maybe outside the RV, then suck the electrolyte down to a touch below the rings
  • Pull your batteries scrape the loose rust blow them off and use some rust converter on the compartment and repaint with a rust resistant paint.
  • Well, I looked closer at the batteries and I was mistaken about it leaking, it was just battery terminal stuff I sprayed on it, but the corrosion is evident, not on the batteries but in the compartment. The batteries without disconnecting from each other are reading 13v , with the battery switch off and 13.2 with it on. The converter is a intelipower 9200 series from progressive dynamics. Thanks again for your help, Dave

Naw. A two stage converter shouldn't cause that type of an issue unless it has its own problems. Many older units used that type of converter without issues. I would look under a different rock. BTW what is the measured voltage at the battery with the converter connected?
