There is a 5 amp fuse on the circuit board that can fail- the glass fuse clips get corroded, and the end caps of the fuse heats up, which melts the solder attaching the fuse element to the end cap. The fuse will look good, but test bad.
There is also a large 2 watt resistor at the bottom of the board that can burn out, but usually it just fails, due to over voltage.
