I can't work those fat plastic ones with the sideways arrow. I can never get the right amount of fluid into the thing to match the marker line, so it is always wrong.
I have good luck with the glass tube type with the bobber that has the green, white, and red zones and the SG numbers. I have not used the floating balls kind, but they don't look like they would work very well.
