Flag Pole Buddy Modifications

Flag Pole Buddy is a great product and let's make it better. The upper sections tend to collapse after several days waving in the breeze and even more so with the addition of a LED light. Anyone have some kind of quick clamp or other way to solve this problem? I did talk to one camper who used a screw type clamp. Adding more detent pins might be an option.

I have the non button type pole but the pictures on the button pole seem to indicate that the upper 2 sections do not have buttons. Plus I would like to continue using my current pole until it wears out.

I added a $20 eBay solar light that is working well for 4 days so far. It's smaller than the FPB light so perhaps it's better in the wind? I used a 3/4" dowel rounded to 1/2" for the light and a small screw and washer to secure.
  • I've seen PVC standoffs for antennas. The Hamsters are a good source of reliable info :)
  • I have a fairly new one and have no problem - yet. The upper sections are a press fit due to the tapered diameter.

I would drill holes in the sections and put a locking pin through them.

On mine I made an extension for the very top so that my two flags were separated by about 10 inches.

Those are detent pins and right now appear to be the best option. Shorter ones for the upper pole sections might be best.
  • FPB shows their solar light attached with a long steel bolt and even with a second led light on top. Seems like a lot of weight and wind drag to me. Anyone have any experience with this?
  • Funny you should ask this. I was trying all kinds of solutions myself. A wicked storm at Myrtle Beach solved the problem. I left the flag up during the storm and the wind bent the pole. My boys and I managed to unbend it but not perfectly. It's now a bear to open and close, but it sure does stay up there without sliding down.

    I would giver' a little bend :-)
