Is that an apples-to-apples comparison? The Iota is probably in a small hole with no air flow. The power supply probably has no thermal protection.
What makes you think your Paramode converter didn't fail due to heat? Every 10C rise above room temperature reduces electronics life by one half. There's a reason high reliable electronics get a burn-in test to weed out latent failures.
