Flopure RV water softener

We bought a Flopure portable RV water softener for our motorhome mainly to protect our mixing valve in our Twin Temp system that is very susceptible to plugging up with calcium deposits. So far the softener is working wonderfully and we are very impressed. However, one of these days we will have to add salt. The instructions call for 2 pounds of normal table salt and so far I have only found containers with 1 pound, 10 ounces of salt. Does anyone know of a brand in 2 pound containers or whether or not we can just add what we've found (1 lb, 10 ozs)?

    We are actually staying in Laughlin at the moment and you bet the water is hard in this area. That's what's been killing our Twin Temp hot water/furnace system every year. Hopefully, the water softener has solved the problem.

    As stated...salt is only used to regen resin and then is rinsed away.

    Ours is an 8000 grain hardness unit (I believe yours is a 10,000 grain---2 lbs salt)
    I regen roughly every 10-14 days.....depends on water supply hardness and how many gallons you use.
    Most places in Southwestern US..every 10 days. Water is hard!

    YES.....allow to sit for 5 mins (I do this for 15 Mins)

    Brine rinse.......that is where you allow inlet water to flow thru unit and onto ground to flush excess salt from unit
    On my softener that rinse cycle is just a pencil stream of water (inlet wide open/drain just open enough to allow a steady pencil size stream) usually 15 mins or so.

    The brine solution reacts with the resin.......exchanging sodium ions for the calcium/magnesium ions in water source.

    Have the same as biscuit...
    I salt and soak same as him, then dribble on the ground (not fast) tasting every few mins until there's no more sale, then return to service

    Thank you, Old Biscuit. The instructions say to "allow the unit to set for 5 minutes". Is this where Iwe "soak" (your word) for 15 minutes? The instructions say as follows: "then turn on the inlet valve and open the drain port on the Y valve to begin brine rinse process. After 20 minutes of brine rinsing the system is ready to be installed back into the RV ....". Does this mean that the unit will be spewing water out on the ground for 20 minutes; or have we got the wrong impression? You can tell that this machine is new to us and we're a little hesitant as to what should happen.

    Have a On-The-GO Brand one.....same as Flow Pur.

    Been using it for 7 yrs.

    Just use the 1 lb. 10 oz box of table salt and extend the soak time (I soak up to 15 mins) and then rinse.

    Digital bathroom scale. Determine your weight. Grab a package holding what you believe to be one pound of salt. Step on scale. Verify.

    Thanks for the replies. The instructions say 2 pounds so we didn't want to mess up the water softener by adding too much or too little. Does anyone have one of these softeners? What's your opinion?

    It's not an exact science. A little less or more isn't going to break it
