I have a Norcold refrig. with upper freezer in my 5th wheel.My problem is that the freezer keeps getting frost on the back wall very quickly.Temp in the freezer section is 0 to 10*.What could be the problem and how to fix it.

Frost is caused by excessive humidity in the air. When you open and close the freezer, this air enters the freezer and the moisture condenses on the freezer wall as frost. The only real way to minimize it is to run a dehumidifier in the FW.

That's a good thing it's working. Most of these devises are not frost free like your home refrigerator. I have to defrost mine about every 3-4 weeks depending on build up. The more you open the door and how humid it is all contribute to how often you need to defrost.I have several insulated bags that I put the cold/frozen stuff in so I can get it defrosted as quickly as possible with out it melting. I like to use a fan on a stool to speed up the defrosting.Bill

Casinojunkie,I have been fighting this problem for years, even with different RVs. My current RV is a 2012 and i bought it new. I have put posts on this forum and followed all the advice, but still have the problem. My gaskets are new, I try to minimize the length of time I have the doors are open-I think i have tried everything. I will follow this thread in case there is something new. Good luck.

Derh20 mentioned gaskets. Check yours. Also check the tilt -- fridge feet should be adjusted so that, when you almost-close the door, it closes itself that last inch or so.When my fridge frosts up prematurely it's always because it was open a crack overnight. For example, something got caught in the door seal and it didn't close tightly, or the fridge (or RV) was not at the proper angle. A 'dented' seal could do this, too.

What others have said about the gaskets. We purchased our trailer in 07 and noticed a lot of frost in the freezer. NorCold reefer, upper freezer. The gaskets were all okay but I noticed a type of thick white plastic tape? on the corners of the freezer compartment, opposite the hinge side. This plastic tape was covering small holes used when the door hinges would be reversed to have the door open the other way. I removed the thick tape and used a very thin tape to cover the holes and the frosting problem went away. It takes very little to break the seal and have air leakage causing frosting.
