freezing fridge 30 degrees

I have an Dometic RM 2852 I cleaned it out before camping and removed racks etc. replaced racks and forgot correct location of sensor inside plastic holder on rack, is it top, middle or bottom rack, front or rear? It started freezing a little on trip is why I am asking for any input.Never had issue before. Thanks for any input.
  • It's been a fews days now and the relocation of temperture sensor was the correct move.I relocated onto the fins and not on lower rack where it was when purchased. It is now staying at 39 40 degrees on propane and electric.Lesson learned don't assume. Thanks for all the input from everyone and old biscuit on solving this.Roy
  • Thanks to Old-Biscuit's advice I moved the sensor to fin and seems to not be freezing. I will update in few more days. Thanks

The HIGHER the resistance of the thermistor, the more the cooling unit runs, the colder the fridge/freezer gets. A friend's Dometic was freezing the fridge. We tested the thermistor per the manual and it checked OK. Test requires unplugging from the control board. Didn't freeze after that. I can only figure the thermistor wire connector at the board was corroded. The Unplug/Plug apparently scraped it clean.
Unplugged or poor connection is high resistance being seen by the Board.
  • Google "Snip the Tip". This was posted several months ago for installing an adjustable thermostat similar to the one TechWriter mentioned.

Thanks for manual pdf.,I tried the manual did not locate drawing of correct sensor location.I may try the fin idea and test? any more ideas if someone has same unit. Thanks again

If your Dometic has a "fixed" (non-adjustable) thermistor -- and I think it does, then you might look into a Dinosaur Adjustable Thermistor.

I installed one on my old Dometic NDR192 fridge to LOWER the fridge temp & it works like a charm.

  • The thermistor goes in a plastic clip with the bulb end just protruding.

Then the plastic clip & thermistor go on the right hand cooling fin (not on rack)
Put it mid position and then check fridge section temp after 24 hrs.
    Too cold....move clip down
    NOT cold enough...move clip up

With thermistor laying down the fridge runs continuously...freezing the fridge section
  • If you have the manual look there, if not go to the Dometic website and download one.
