Fridge warms on propane

While fine on electric, when we switch to propane to go on the road our fridge gets warm. We have a little fan in there and are careful not to overload (after reading other posts last year). I recall someone one time on here saying there was a tube that could be clogged (bees nests maybe?) but I don't remember what it was called to search, or if that was a propane issue.
Advice or links to other posts appreciated (several searches I couldn't find it, if that is in fact what I read).
Thank you,

  • Just thought I'd update this... turns out that there were a couple of things wrong from the factory. The shield inside the vent that prevents air from blowing in was not there at all - so hot90+ degree air was blowing in, and the insulation that should have been around the fridge in the open inch or two space around it wasn't there either. Both were fixed as warranty work. No way to really test until it's on the road on a warm day, but hopefully this does it! Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
  • I fought fridge getting warm while freezer was cold when on gas for a couple of years. Including removing fridge and cleaning fins and flue. Added fans and other mods recommended here on RV.NET. Checked gas flow and pressure. Finally saw a post one here about pulling flame orifice and soaking in alcohol for 1/2 hour. Then blow it out with air. I now have same cold on fridge with gas as I do with AC power. The clue is if you cannot hear the burner roaring (maybe overstating this :B). Clean the orifice.
  • spiders love the smell of propane I've had the webs restrict the air flow and the burner will not work properly. I blow mine out at least once a year

That would be the flue tube directly above the burner and inside the flue tube is a baffle which is a twisted piece of metal about 5 inches long that hangs a specific distance above the burner. (size and spacing depends on your fridge model)

First thing though would be clean the burner and jet as mentioned by midnightsadie above.

I just went through this with mine. After I cleaned the burner and flue tube it wasn't much better so I ordered a new burner and jet. While waiting I had nagging thoughts about gas pressure. Everyone will tell you that regulators don't go bad .... but .... Well, I made a homeade mannometer and connected it to the test port on the burner. Dometic says it should be 11 inches water column with 1/3 of the BTUs running in the trailer. I had 8 inches :( with only the fridge and it went down when I turned on a stove burner. I messed with the adjustment on the Marshal regulator and got it up to 10 1/2 inches of water column. Fridge was much better. Now I need a new changeover regulator because this one can't be trusted.
