frig left on

Anyone ever plug it into a watt meter to see the duty cycle so they could estimate the cost to run full time?

When I had a cooling unit rebuilt, the company told me that it was better to leave it on. Seems the heating and cooling cycles can fatigue the metal.

Yes.....LOL !

I don't think it matters! We purchased out previous TT about the same time one of our friends purchased theirs in 2010. They brought theirs home and ran their fridge 24/7.

We did not and only turned it on when needed.

Both units were / are fine !

Ever since we got an RV garage, where we can keep the RV at home, we have left the refrigerator on 24/7/365. We keep basic foods, like condiments, in the frig and frozen foods in the freezer. We also keep clean clothes aboard, so if we get an urge to hit the road, we just add some beer and go. We've never had a problem with any frig in the three RVs we've treated this way. Just make sure your rig is reasonably level, if you leave the frig on.

Even if you don't care about the energy wasted, the more things you leave ON the higher the odds are that something will short out and start a fire......and/or get damaged when a storm goes through.

COST. :( Here in Ontario hydro rates are higher than pretty well anywhere else so I always empty our fridge and turn it off between trips. I'd rather use the funds I'd otherwise spend on electricity to keep the fridge running 24/7 spring to fall on more camping. :B

Our frig gets turned off and propped open at the end of each of our campin' trips.

My fridge stays on from April through October. That way we can leave it stocked with condiments and such. I see no reason not to leave it on.

When we lived in Florida I would leave ours on to help prevent rust damage from the high humidity (had seen old junked gas RV fridges there that had rusted out coils) but now, living in dry Nevada, I have little concern for that problem.... Really nothing much to go wrong by leaving them on, though.

We shut ours off if our camping trips are separated by more than two weeks or so. Just remember to leave the frig door open to air out when it is shut down!
