Fuel filter change out on Onan QD 10000

I'm up for my first 1 yr. service on my Onan Quiet Diesel 10000...only has 36 hours on it, but the manual states to change the oil, oil filter, air filter , blow out the spark arrester and change the fuel filter.
Got it all done except the fuel filter. I'll look at doing that in the next couple of days... but there seems to be very little room to get in there with the flare wrenches... any hints/tips ?

  • Can I use the same oil as I do in the caterpillar engine I have? I am using delo 40/15? Or is there special oil I should use in the QD 10000? The original factory tag said it had 40/15 in it but no manufacturer. Should I just buy the onan product or is that necessary?
  • After doing spark arrestors for years on 7.5's and getting nothing, it is off my list. I did do my 10K when changing a belt and had the cover off...again nothing. JMHO

Two 10MM bolts on the outside of the case and then you can just lift the whole thing out. Very easy compared to the 7.5's. :) :) Usually no drips even.

Thanks --- I didn't see them . I was wondering how in the world I could get a flare wrench in the tight confines. I'll check it out tomorrow !
For access to the spark arrestor clean out, do you have to take off the entire top cover, or is it just the small cover ?
