Furnace issues

Update: After calling the tech rep I checked the sail switch and found nothing hindering its operation, so then I pulled out the electrode and checked the continuity of the electrode and wire to pc board, and the ceramic surround was not cracked...All looked clean and good except that the two electrode pair seemed to have too wide of a gap (about 1/4"), so I squeezed them a bit closer together (to about 1/8") and reinstalled electrode back into furnace...Now all works perfect again!!

Plan 'B' is a great idea but of little help if one doesn't have hook-ups. Fortunately, I seldom if ever camp where hook-ups are available...

I would incorporate a PLAN B haha... We always carry a couple of OIL FILLED ELECTRIC HEATERS on our trips. Will connect them to the campground 20AMP service using my own extension cord.

The oil filled heaters is probably the safest you can use in the Rv Trailer enviroment even unattended with no visible hot core flame, no musty burn smell, no noise,,,

We also like the idea of using the campground electric instead of our propane...

Well, I called Atwood tech today and a nice fella there said for a field repair to try these two things:

1) Disconnect and remove the gas valve assembly and pull free to reveal the electrode - electrode has red wire attached. Clean electrode and check wire for any looseness.

2) Remove 4 screws to panel on blower side of unit to check for free operation of the sail switch.

Loose, dirty connection(s)..........

Ok, now after last nights cold PITA, tonight for some strange reason the furnace is again working perfectly...Not a big believer in mechanical recuperation, I don't get whats happening!!

It all depends on what you say is a "short" period. How long does the burner stay lit. THAT is the real answer to find your correct problem. You have to pull the furnace to do a correct diag and repair. You could have insect type nests on the burner that will allow spark ignition, but NOT return the ac signal to the control board. The odds are as the other poster stated, you have a defective spark electrode(cracked porcelain). Either way, you have to pull the furnace and pull the burner to verify. Doug
