Flame should always be blue, Orange indicates a bad gas/air ratio or contaminates in the burner area. (either one will do it).
If there is an adjustment for the pilot you can increase the size a bit and/or clean it.
A common problem that bugs many is.... Well, a Bug, of the insect variety, it nests in the gas tube and clogs the gas jet giving you a poor flame.
