Furnace running requires hookup or engine running?

I’ve rented a 2012 sprinter airstream, class b, to run the furnance (lpg) I have to have van engine running, be hooked up to power, or generating running. This seems odd to me. It’s propane seems like battery would be enough for thermostat and whatever electric is needed to manage.

So if I’m dry camping, to get heat at night I need engine running, which is awkward at 3am.

Does this sound right?

A single 12V house battery will NOT run a furnace all night.

Unless you set it at 40* in 40* weather.

    Yeah. The battery is toast.
  • The furnace should operate off 12 volts DC. If it works with the genny or motor running, it sounds like the house battery is either dead or out of the circuit. Check to see if there is a battery cut-off switch and, if so, what position it's in.
