Update: I fashioned a sheet metal wind deflector and attached in to the stainless furnace intake/exhaust surround (just in front of the ports). The deflector sticks out to the side about 2 3/4" and does not impede either the intake or exhaust air flow...After this I turned on the furnace and took about a 15 mile freeway test drive with the furnace running full-out. Turns out, everything works fine now and the furnace stayed running without a hitch...My only worry was the plumbing lines when transiting Hwy 80 Donner Pass through snow and freezing sub-zero weather (was -17f last week)...
