Generator cranks over but will not start from remote start

First, have you tried starting it from the switches itself (top of the generator)? That is the first thing to do.
I would then disconnect the connector from the generator to the remote switches. Should be one just outside of the generator itself.

Just like inside if diesel, you will have a pre-heat and start/stop switch.
