I have a Yamaha 2800 watt tri-fuel generator. My operator's manual states that ALL gasoline must be out of the carburetor before it will run on LP. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you stated that when you start it on gas and then shut off the gas supply until the carburetor runs dry, then unit will start and run on LP. If and when I run my unit on gas, I always run the carburetor dry and I have never had a problem of starting the unit on LP. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.
