- dclarke618ExplorerI've cleaned all of the connections and even replaced the PC board and still nothing. I guess I'll start trying to trace the wires back to the switch. The switch on the dash lights up when the gen set is running so it looks like the wires are connected. Must be something that's just staring at me!
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIWhen this same issue occurred on our previous coach with a 7KW Onan Marquis generator, I found the remote wiring harness had butt connectors about 12 inches along the wires from where they entered a plastic wirewrap at the generator end. One of the connectors had corroded enough to separate from the wire. I replaced all of the butt connectors with soldered and shrink wrapped connections, and had no further problems.
Also, a close look at the A1 board traces will show that the remote connections are simply paralleled with the on board switch connections. If the on board switches work correctly the board is good other than a possible damaged trace or connection, both easily remedied without an expensive board replacement. - My manual does not show this circuit board.
Here is link to service manual.
Manual
Look at pages 6-4 or there abouts. - dclarke618ExplorerI found the part Number. It is 300-4923. Is there any way to test it? Replacement cost is $200+ for generic and almost $400 for OEM.
- dclarke618ExplorerI did clean the green and purple connection and that didn't do it.
- dclarke618ExplorerI removed the start switch from the generator and the control board was not behind it. The only place that I think it could be is under the voltage regulator. There are some wires running under there. Looks like green and purple. The screws are rusted so I sprayed them with oil and will try to remove them this evening. Can anyone confirm this is the location of the control board?
Thanks - The switch is attached to the board.
Look at the connector for the remote. Is a straight line type or is two short rows. - dclarke618ExplorerFuse is fine. Cleaned the connections (White Connectors)with pipe cleaners. No luck! Bought some contact cleaner this morning and will try that later. Do I have to remove the start switch on the gen set to get to the board??
- Should add that be sure you are checking the fuse in the unit and not the spare furnished in the rubber cap.
- jwmIIExplorerThe switches are Onans rocker style switch. The rocker on the outside switch often gets trashed with grit and other types of refuse that prevents the switch contacts from properly making up. Clean the external and internal switches with contact cleaner and work them several times. Many times this will allow the switches to operate.
