A TRUE 1,000 watt generator (Actually I think it was conservatively rated) has run my Progressive Dymanics 9180 with very dead batteries. I'm told the max draw on the 9180 is 1300 watts but it held with my Genrac 1000.
If your converter is 60 amp or smaller you should have no problem with a 1000 watt, 45 amps on a 1000 PEAK SURGE model.
How long.. depends on the converter and the battery.. If you have say 200 amp hours of battery at 50 percent and a 45 amp SMART 3 stage converter than it will take like 3 hours to bring it up to around 90 percent at least 2 more to finish the job.. Larger converter (Up to 60 amp) shorten the 90 percent time, Larger still Will damage the batteries unless you have more than 200 amp hours.
(Figure 30 percent of amp hours at 20 hour rate is max)
Larger batteries will lengthen the re-charge time.
Is it safe to asssume a larger generator will need less run time.
NO it is the converter that determines that. The recharge figures I gave you are for my 80 amp converter feeding 225 amp hours of house battery plus about 75 amp hours of chassis battery (Figure 300 amp hours worth).
