Getting Water in Fresh Water Tank

I recently purchased a new Forest River Wild Wood - when I hook up to City Water, I am also getting water in my fresh water tank. Is it possible the valve is stuck on my water pump, which allows pressurized City Water to 'backflow' through it into my fresh water tank?
The Dealer has not been any help with this problem. They have a two month backlog in taking care of service issues.

  • Exact same problem occurred with my trailer when new.
It was the valve in the Shurflo pump, the manufacturer sent me a whole new pump.

This may sound silly, but you might try this.

Put water in your fresh water tank (sounds like you've already got some there), and turn on the water pump. Turn on a faucet somewhere and let the pump pump some water.

Now turn the faucet and the pump off.

Now attach the city water and turn on at the water source. The pump check-valve may engage. It's possible it could be just that simple.

    Good luck.

My first thought also, it could just be a piece of debris causing the problem. Activating the pump may dislodge the debris.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, if I just get the dealer to answer my questions this fast.
  • I don't have a Forest River. But I have a two position switch on my 5er; "normal" feeds water normally, "power fill" sends water to the fresh water tank. Maybe you have something similar.
  • Bad dealer.
Contact Forest River for your region directly on Monday morning.

  • You may have a valve turned wrong or, as you thought, a bad check valve in the pump. Easy fix. You also bought from the wrong dealer.
