Thanks justlou, I spoke with Magnum, they dismissed it as a problem outside the inverter. "No known issues with GFCI tripping.. has to be a wiring or appliance issue."
I'd like it to work as designed but being a nervous Nancy around electricity I may just leave it as is. When it's time to call out a Mobile Repair guy for something I'll have him bring a replacement GFCI and see if we can make it pop on a new one to rule out the receptacle itself.
