GFI

The GFI outlet in my trailer trips whenever anything is plugged into any of the outlets it is connected to. You can reset the GFI and all works well until you plug something elso in.. then the story repeats..I think it needs replacing... Will a standard GFI outlet available at the hardware store work or is a special one required for trailers..

  • The "newer" GFCI are better !

One odd thing about them. They must have power to be reset.
  • Yes you can use any of them. Ours has failed too - just got old and weak like any circuit breaker can and we have replaced it. Now if you install a new and the same thing happens, you better find where the problem is.
  • buy a new one. they go bad. and don't buy any old one. Leviton or P&S. I would not buy say a "Smart Electrican" from menards or the house brand from True Value. The buck or so you save is not worth your life, or doing the job again. Trust me, after working with them all the time they have been around, about 25-28 years, it pays to buy the brand names like I mentioned above.
  • It actually is a standard GFCI so one from any HW store will do.
The fact that it trips when ANYTHING is plugged into it tells me it's toast - failures of the cheapo's they use in our RV's are super common.
  • any of them will work,BUT yours is working ,its telling you some thing is not right.
