For starters, any idea what the differential pressure is between inside and outside a lithium battery at, or 40 or 50,000 feet? Or the temperature lows it's exposed to? Or how about 8.5 G's potential?

Perhaps the technology is not there, quite yet, but give it time. The weight savings alone in aircraft, and bought with tax payers dollars, should make them welcome, soon enough.
